The First Omen

Client

The Omen franchise, consisting of five films and a TV series, all began with the original film in 1976. The First Omen tells the story leading up to Damian’s birth, the beginning of the Antichrist story. The filmmakers wanted this new film to feel like it fit within the same 1970s world as the original Omen, and wanted the titles to have a classic feel without aping the older films. We chose a serif font that is both gothic and modern, fitting the period of the film as well as its religious horror themes. The animation of the titles emulates the look of analog optical printing techniques that were used in the ‘70s films. The goal was to create something that feels like a nod to the original film, but also contemporary and relevant as a modern horror film.
