Mufasa: The Lion King
Client
yU+co had the pleasure of working with Director Barry Jenkins to create the Main Title and End Crawl for Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King, which recounts Mufasa's adventures as a young, orphaned cub with friend turned brother Taka. The challenge was to design a Main Title that fit the modern, photo-real look of the film, while still paying homage to the iconic 1994 animated film. Taking the original sans serif typeface, we created a cracked textural treatment that interacts with the natural lighting of the scene and helps organically transition from Rafiki’s blowing sands to the desert sky. To make the most of the native stereo 3D format and add a sense of physical depth, we built dimensional clouds for the title to emerge from. As “Mufasa: The Lion King” pushes forward with a glorious and mythical sense fit for a king, it sets the stage for the film to come.
